what is the difference b/n avast home edition & Avast virus cleaner tool?

is avast virus cleaner a good tool for removing virus & scanning? any other good anti virus soft.

I have downloaded avast home free home edition. Can I also download other avast products? For example- Avast Virus Cleaner Tool, Multi Virus Cleaner 2009 etc Is this recommended? Thank you

Avast cleaner couldn't clean these two files - why? What's a (portable) program that might work? Do I have a virus or not? So, I have both Avast-anti virus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware [the free versions] running on my computer. Malwarebytes detected a Trojan [I never caught the rest of the name] on the computer. I told it to delete the virus and I thought would take care of it. I haven't noticed anything else wrong with the computer, and i've done a few scan since then, but I was doing one today when I noticed that the virus I thought I had taken care of was in quarantine. So, I deleted the file again. Then I though, oh shit, does that delete the virus, or does it just take it out of quarantine? So I ran Avast Virus Cleaner Tool, and it didn't detect anything, but it said that certain files [mostly the updates from HP files] could not be scanned. So I scanned that folder with both Malware and Avast and I've gotten nothing. [this is the first computer which I'm responsible for, for all of those laughing at my stupidity.]

Stubborn virus? I am using XP and was using Avast, Spyware Doc and Ad-Aware. Avast showed me the list of files that could not be scanned and in it was the Win32 PcClient MI trojan about a week ago. Things seem to have worsened progressively - the Administrator login I was using is now unable to download any new antivirus tools or firewalls (after we uninstalled avast), the internet is extremely slow and requires sometimes 10 refreshes per page. It won't even let us access download manager or the device manager. The sound card is not detectable now, either. Fortunately, one of the other logins is working to download and use the internet so we downloaded a new firewall (comodo) and used avast virus cleaner - which showed no infections - but was unable to scan WINDOWS\system32 (and one other file in Nero Home). anyone have any tool specifically for scanning the sys 32 folder? (there are 200,000 other files which makes scanning take forever). the other login we are using is not an administrator

Trojan virus...or what? So my Norton was doing a scan and said that it found a Trojan.Brisv.A!inf virus. I had to download a trojan removal tool from Norton, but when the tool scans it says that no virus can be found. I've rescanned with this numerous times and each time it says the same thing. Then I downloaded avast! virus cleaner and just did a scan. It listed a bunch of files (including the infected ones) as "could not be scanned," thus again telling me I have no viruses. Whats going on? What else can I do?

Blue Screen Of Death: What is the best free, or trial program, to help me find the cause? My Computer has been giveing me a few blue screens of death. One night it gave me three, once when I was booting up and loading windows. I havent a clue as to why it would be doing this. I deleated some programs I have not been useing it has not given me one. I think my computer is dying! Any solutions? Every-time l restart/turn on my computer, it goes up as chkdsk and Local Disc Consistency check, and then it restarts after, then boots up normally. Firefox is having problems (saying 'Script have stopped due to low memory condition'). l've tried removing programmes, scanning, restarting, Defragging, CCleaner, Disk Cleaning tool, but nothings working. Help. My avast will not open.? Well I just downloaded Avast home edition 4.8 My computer really needs a scan and clean up. It has a few virus's on it that are making it hard to use. I recently installed Avast Anti-virus software on my winxp OS.I downloaded a torrent, after utorrent completed the download the folder was zipped, after I opened it, my antivirus kicked in and told me of an infected trojan file and that no further action was required. So I figured that Avast isolated & quarantined the maleware, but popups opened and internet security software appeared.I ended up using Malewarebytes to clean up the mess, but the damage had already been done, my laptop was running slow & Internet browser had tool bars I never even installed. My last resort was to reformatt my HD back to factory default .Luckily I had backed up all data to my external previously.Sorry to drag on like this, but I want to avoid what had just happened & need to be prompted by an anti-virus program to warn me of the file or program that I'm about to download, before another disaster occures. How do I remove a search engine virus? I have some type of search engine virus on my computer. When I try to search for something in Google or Yahoo and then click on one of the results, it takes me to a pop-up of another search engine/advertisement. I have used multiple virus removal programs (McAfee, AVG Free, Spybot Search and Destroy, Avast, and Windows Malicious Software Remover Tool) and the disk clean-up option on my computer. I ran the anti-virus programs one after another and rebooted my computer between each scan. I also deleted any of the threats that any of the programs found. Help With Viruses! (Is AVG Having Problems?)? I have AVG and about a month ago I was clean of viruses. AVG would scan and it wouldn't pick up a single thing. Now in the past 2 weeks or so it's going crazy, picking up "so called" virus after virus. I downloaded HitMan Pro 3.5 and it said it detected something, so it asked me to reboot and I did. Then after the reboot I scanned with AVG free edition and it's still picking up even more threats/infections and it has TONS of "warnings". It's saying it's picking up "trojan horse java/classloader" and a whole bunch of "tracking cookies" <--- Is that a bad thing? (I'm not good with computers.) I have no idea what to do and I'm getting tired of finding that I "supposedly" have all these infections or trojans. Is AVG going through a problem or is it just my computer? Can anyone tell me a SAFE way to remove any infections/trojans I may have? Like a virus scanning tool or something? I have AVG and also Avast! and I'm wondering if that may be the problem. I've heard it's not good to have 2 virus scanners? I'm wondering which one I should get rid of. AVG was working fine but now it's being a huge pain. Installing Avast Antivirus and Removing Norton Antivirus??? I have a compaq presario v2000, with 512 mb of ram and a 1.8 ghz AMD sempron processor, with microsoft xp home edition. I had installed norton antivirus 2002 nearly a year ago from a CD my dad had, and it was fine, until I ram a free virus scan on the internet and found out that I had 5 viruses on my computer. I then installed avast antivirus, and it installed OK, but I had not uninstalled norton beforehand. I then read that I had to uninstall norton first, so I uninstalled norton, deleted all of it's program files, ran the norton removal tool, and edited my registry so it is clean of files with the name "norton" in them. I restarted my computer after doing all of that. I looked all over the internet on ways to remove norton, and I tried all of them. Then, assuming norton was removed from my system, I installed avast again. I ran a boot-time scan, but then when my computer was nearly finished booting, avast gave me a message telling me that norton antivirus was still running Avast told me that norton antivirus was still running and that it was incompatible. I have now registered avast, and it tells me that 3 our of 4 scanners are running. These scanners are: internet mail, outlook/exchange, network shield, and web shield. I am missing 3 of the scanners that should be running. I don't know if my system is protected or not, and I have searched far and wide in my computer for anything titled "norton" and so far I haven't found anything. But still avast keeps telling me that norton is running, and as a result, avast cannot sucessfully run. I really need help on this. having a problem attaching pics - browser shuts down & ie box comes up to let me know it crashed? I even have tried through Firefox and Chrome - still crashes and I get the same IE error message :/ My windows xp is set to automatically update I have zone alarm firewall avast for anti-virus and I use glary utilities as a clean up tool. ohh... dude... i want a antivirus or just a tool which can remove all viruses from my system.? i tried every POPULAR anti virus software....like kaspersky, avg, avira, avast, quick heal, etc. like every software. they detected many viruses but problems remains unsolved. recently i installed loauris trojan remover demo version. it detect explorer.exe , services.exe, which can not be detected by above antiviruses. it was demo version so i cannot remove those. i guess some more .exe programe of windows file are infecting my computer. i do format my whole system in every month. (full clean) then i install antivirus like mostly avira latest version and do manually update. then i scan my external hard disk to ensure of any viruses. it shows all normal. but very soon like 4-5 days. my computer starts hanging like before. what to do?? any gueses. my computer configuration is so high as Quad core processor, 4 gb ram, 1 gb graphic card, 1500 gb hard disk. i cannot even enjoy speed of such processor. help me !!! thank u all

Mozilla firefox takes two tries to open? Every time I try to open firefox from the desktop icon or the start menu it opens for 1 second then closes. I double click on it again and it will open and stay open. Can anybody pinpoint the problem? I've done a spyware scan with my pc tools spyware doctor and no infections were found and I also did a virus scan with my avast and it was clean. It just started doing this and was working fine before.

Is there any hope of getting rid of this GameVance virus? My brother unwittingly downloaded GameVance from somewhere. I've read about GameVance causing tons of pop-up's and unwanted ads, but something it taking over my computer. Random Window's Security balloons keep popping up on my taskbar, asking if I want to run my antivirus program. Clicking on it only opens something that claims to be a Windows Antivirus that doesn't exist- our system's antivirus program is avast! I keep running scans on the entire computer but it keeps coming up clean. I've tried to delete the program, but my computer is completely hijacked. The virus is actually preventing me from opening certain programs, including Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. It is also preventing me from installing programs like avg and Window's Malicious Software Removal Tool by claiming it's infected. If it were as simple as removing the program I would, but I can't get into any of my settings. I am almost 100% sure that GameVance is the cause since it was the last thing downloaded onto my computer as of last night when these problems began. I'd reallllly like to fix this myself if possible, or at least get to some of my files before getting the entire thing wiped. Any suggestions are HUGELY appreciated.

Help to delete ADVANCED Virus? Some how the xpantispyware2009 virus got into my computer. It is blocking me from opening most of my spyware-getter-rid ofs, including hijack this. I deleted some of its .DLL files, but it is still blocking hijack this, and any removal tools links will not open online, it just goes to a blank page so I think it is blocking that too. HELP Avast is running, and isnt detecting anything yet, and F8 is not working on my laptop to open it and try and run it in safe mode. I dont even see an F8 option, it says F2 and F12 and neither of those say anything about safe mode. I deleted all registry keys with CC cleaner, HELP!!!!!!! What can I do? Can i delete it manually? Virus, Malware, Spyware HELP!? My laptop just got infected today with some virus, or malware... It was a fake Antivirus program, I think its called ANTIVIRUS INTERNET PRO. I tryed using Malwarebytes and Avast and Super Antispyware. But they cleaned only a little bit of it. Program ;)_wink not responding? ? My computer was locking up and slowing down. Did a set of thorough scans, cleaned up cookies and a tool bar. It helped a bit, but last night the machine locked up again and when I tried to shut down I got an error that said "Program ;)_Wink Not responding" Yadda yadda... typical Windoze XP message when a program hangs. Thing IS - I've NEVER seen or heard of ;)_wink (the underscore is a BLOCK, not an underscore but I am too frustrated to figure out how to change that font in this box. I did a deep scan of my computer again - nothing. Did a search of 'wink' in all files but didn't see anything suspicious. Did a Google search and still came up empty. Any ideas would be appreciated. I don't go to porn sites, I limit downloads to 'safe' zones (no p2p), run Avast anti virus, Counterspy, and Malwarebytes free. Thanks

Ive come to understand that computers that run Windows OS do best with 3 basic software in combination. Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, and a Firewall. Is anything I'm using unnecessary, do i need ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker tool bar in firefox? Should I get another AntiSpyware program? I Need help with (possible) adware infection? Whenever i am working on firefox, some ad-site pops up in an IE browser window, also my PC makes some clicking noises every couple of minutes what i did: 1. i fully upgraded my avast anti-virus software and superantispyware 2. i completely cleaned my registry using CCleaner, i also deleted temporary internet files, cookies etc. 3. in IE i went to tools->popup blocker settings and turned it on, i also went to IE options->privacy and blocked all cookies 4. i restarted and ran a boot-time avast scan, then when it was done, i also scanned with superantispyware 5. despite all this, when i went to pop-up blocker settings, i foun d that by default a couple of things like www.adserver.com and www3.adserver.com etc. are still there in 'allowed sites' list even though i had removed them before i shut-down its really frustrating me, what to do?

What is "mebroot" and "torpig"? I keep getting an email from Qwest saying that my computer has a virus and says it is Mebroot and/or Torpig. I run my Malwarebytes and Avast Antivirus every other day and clean my computer daily - nothing ever comes up. I also downloaded the Microsoft Malicious Software Remover Tool (it was requested by Qwest to remove these viruses) and nothing was found. What are these viruses and what can they do to my computer?

My computer is dying! how can i speed up my computer without losing files? I got my Latitude Laptop in January from a used shop; $399. it was wiped by the company vending them, so no programs were installed. It worked almost-fine for about a month. now, it takes 5 minutes to log onto a user, even when i've removed almost all start-up programs other than Windows processes. I've scanned it with any virus and spyware software available, including avast!, McAfee, PC Tools, Norton, and others, removed the few programs they all found, and it still is slow. It seems to be spastic, running fine for five minutes, then sticks up for about half an hour, then starts working fine again. i've cleaned up the registry with every clean-up program i could find, gone through the processes in task manager (to no effect), and uninstalled the majority of programs that were of no use to me. i've pretty much lost all hope! i want to see if there's a way to fix this up without buying a new computer. do you have to re-purchase windows to do what eviltoast suggested?

This is a bit long so please be patient and may require thought Windows XP SP3 is my operating system Hello, I am having some problems getting particular software packages to install with the message "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".Ok 5 days ago after a deadly virus hit me hard, i was able to install Absolutely anything, i had all the privileges. I am the only administrator. With Avast and norton security scan i was able to remove the viruses, i was able to install malware bytes and remove quite a few more along with Microsoft's, avgs, avasts, synamtec, DR Webs removal tools, i was also able to install Zone Alarm but i couldnt install other software. I am running in safe mode, yes i know it might be a problem but here's the thing * Viruses most likely still in my system, normal mode may not be safe * Im not sure if normal mode may be the solution to the problem, and as such may be infected if i login even though ive edited start up, and cleaned a few files manually, that i know aren't legitimate * "Local Security Policy" files are in the correct place in the system however, the program says it will not let me change settings, cannot be determined and may not be changed, database is in correct place but still i have this error somehow i cannot change these settings * Ive tryed registry editor, to see if keys have been added under "installer" and they havent all i see is a file linking to terminal services that is now disabled. * I checked the registry to see if it was an installer issue, maybe if old keys were left behind, its not because new programs get this error. * System Restore cannot be used because all the points were infected by BORAT!! and couldn't be cured. * I stupidly deleted a file called APRPRODUCTION.exe from I386 because prevx sed it was a virus also many in Windows/Installer * I cannot reinstall "Installshield" as i get the message described in the question, I think this is linked for not being able to install AVG antivirus neither Buffalo's Wireless LAN Drivers. * I do not have a Windows CD provided with my PC, Apparently :( * I do have a lunux boot disc * Yes the virus is Win32/Virut but thats of the topic, and all answers regarding the virus are useless, and most likely a waste of my time So this is my problem, The main problem is im not able to install more security software to scan in safe mode because it gets that error about admin even though i am the only 1, who doesn't change anything, i need to make sure this virus is gone. then i can happily be bothered to fix anything else that the virus deleted or modified or created. i need a malware remover that......? im looking for a cheap malware and viral remover that will actually get the job done, i currently run Norton 09 its good at keeping small viruses and trojans away,but even though its good a keeping up with viral definitions,Symantec still cant take on big tasks like worms and brand new mega trojans, a perfect example would be the newly released Trojan BrisV.a malware so complicated that Symantec auto protect needed a manual removal,so Symantec put this tool on their website that cleans any trace of BrisV.a,i ran it BUT IT DIDNT CLEAN ANYTHING!!!! what is the problem in cpu usage? i have avast internet security and avg free9.0. I have the free version of Spyware Doctor, but is there something wrong with it or my computer . . .? I have the free version of Spyware Doctor, which only scans my computer for spyware but doesn't remove them. It says I have 40+ infections on my computer that are at elevated risk, and 5+ that are at low risk. When I saw this I was alarmed, so I downloaded two other antispyware tools that can actually remove the spyware. But when I scanned my computer using the other two antispyware tools they both said that my computer was clean--no viruses/spyware on them. Nada. So is there something wrong with my computer, or is there something wrong with Spyware Doctor and should I remove it? Also, how do I scan my computer with the free version of Avast?

I can't get McAfee off of my computer!? Let me describe the issue I am having in a bit of detail so maybe someone can help me with this? I used to have Avast. At some point this kid installed McAfee on my computer while trying to "fix" my computer from a little issue it was having. For a while I had both Avast and McAfee on my system. I realized that I had both on my computer and had my friend do a deep scan, clean my registry, junk files, etc... he told me I needed to choose one or the other, but that ultimately I needed to get a better AntiVirus. I uninstalled Avast, kept McAfee. Then a week later, bought Webroot per my friend's suggestion. I uninstalled (or thought I uninstalled) McAfee before installing Webroot. I realized suddenly that McAfee cannot be removed so easily. I asked what to do here on Yahoo Answers, and I was given the McAfee Program Removal tool download. Tried that. This was the message I got: "McAfee Enterprise software detected. Cannot continue. Please contact McAfee Technical Support." I have tried every maneuver I know of to get this to work... I tried removing McAfee from the Add/Remove Programs list (temporarily, because it WILL re-enable itself) then running the tool. That didn't work. I tried re-booting in safe mode and doing the same thing. That didn't work. It doesn't work to remove from the program list and try to delete all other files with the name McAfee because the files are locked and cannot be deleted. I did a virus scan and came up with nothing. Only detected some low-risk cookies. I'm stumped. Someone PLEASE help me with this. **NOTE** Please, I beg you, DO NOT recommend other AntiVirus to me!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT tell me what I have sucks and I need to get something else. I have a specific issue I would like help with. If I wanted suggestions I would post it in its own question. needs some help reinstalling XP Professional =")? My computer got infected to a state it's unusable, its as slow to a crawl and nothing will fix it due to the nasty file infector "VIRUT" that infected my files and as of removal of that and the 300 more scanner tests to check were clean and performance tools and msconfig. The computer will simply run fine but it seems to have a nasty problem loading applications, it gets overloaded by the simplest tasks such as avast shields or loading messenger, but when i turn everything of on startup it runs like i just bought it from the exception of some tasks such as updates fail but it's usable for my needs, its just i know for a fact my computer can run these applications and i cant go around the web without protection, i used to have avast, zonealarm and sandboxie running and the pc wont even make a sound, now im lucky if i can run messenger without it eating itself.
