Annoying error from virus? i have an annoying "critical system error" showing up in the lower right of my screen, it looks like a yellow "X "in a gray circle and changes to a yellow "?" and back again. it also bring up a window that says stuff about how i should click here to get a virus scan, and i have McAfee and something else that my university tech lab put on my computer. I tried both of those then used Trend Micro House call (a free online virus scan, very good i might add) and that was the only thing that found anything. However, the warning is still there... i clicked on the link to see what the virus scan was that it was telling me to but and its something called VirusBurst(which i have never heard of) so i got the "trial version" and it found a whole lot more stuff (like maybe 10 more things/non cookies) but when i tried to clean them it tries to make me buy the program. there is no way in hell that im paying for another virus scan program... any ideas on what to do? Can you recomend a good free Clean PC sort of download? I'm afraid my Norton is a bit ancient and my laptop has slowed down to a micro crawl. I was looking at some of these free, online PC cleaners, but they seem a bit too good to be true sort of deals. And there are a few posts out there that say, in the very least, mycleanpc.com is a hoax. Does anyone have suggestions on a good, trust worthy (or at least as trust worthy as you can get online and for free) cleaner uppers, preferably that goes after any viruses too? Virus surviving reformat from recovery partition.? First off I'm running 64bit Vista with 8gb ram and a 160gb hard drive that's less than 10% full with 3mbps DSL internet. About two weeks ago internet browsing took a huge turn towards the slow. Firefox would regularly freeze and having more than two tabs open meant they wouldn't ever fully load (literally the loading thing would spin and spin) I used CCleaner regularly and had Avast AV installed. I then installed Malwarebytes and Spybot. Malwarebytes found a two trojans (removed), spybot found a few tracking cookies. I thought I was good, nope. My computer seemed slower than before. I ran Trend Micro, Bitdefender and Comodo online virus scans which all found nothing (yes I scaned all drives). Next I decided to reformat my HDD from the recovery partition and now I am typing this on a freshly formated computer that is just as slow as it was prior to the reformat. I also used Hijack this before the reformat, saved the file to a flash drive and compared it to the HJT report after reformat (they're the same) but can't make heads or tails of it because one HJT analyzer highlights multiple selections as bad and another doesn't highlight any. So my guess is there is a virus hanging out on the recovery partition somewhere, even though I thought those partitions were read only. I reformated from the recovery partition since I didn't get any recovery discs when I bought my machine. I did created a driver recovery disc right after I bought the machine, but it's less than 3gb while the recovery partition is close to 8gb so I'm assuming the driver recovery disc does not have the windows OS on it. Long story short I have a few questions. 1. Is there a way to reformat the partition to wipe it clean and start over new and clean, with out the proper recovery discs, i.e. create new partition? 2. I did not unplug the modem during reformat, does that matter? 3. Other than purchasing another version of windows (Ican actually get windows 7 with ed. discout for $30) is there a way to get bootable files that I know will be virus free? 4. Any Ideas on how to get rid of this? Much appreciated! @ ez - yes I ran all of the diagnostics on both the main partition and the recovery in both safe and normal mode

Got a virus, gonna clean it out, but .........? OK, I got a virus. People have told me to run superantispyware and malwarebyte free online scans. Since a lot of people have told me to do this, I imagine that it is pretty common. But this is me first time doing it and I am not computer saavy. So I wonder if people out here can tell me what to expect and give me some pointers. I am kinda paranoid about downloading anything because of the already placed spyware on my computer. Program like Norton 360 or System utilities? (Registry cleaner, etc.)? Is there a program like Norton 360 or something that fixes registry errors, can clean and fix errors in the hard drive, and all those sorts of things? I already have Norton Anti virus, so that isn't really necessary, but if it comes with anti virus that is better than Norton, all the better. I'm just sick of looking for free online programs that fix errors and clean everything. I don't really know much about Norton 360, but there is also Norton System utilities, which has some of the stuff 360 has but 360 is missing some of the stuff fro utilities. I have almost 40 viruses on another computer that refuses to go online... please help? My mother has had no problems with her computer for a year, so she says. However, when I got on it first the first time yesterday there was a warning on the bottom right - I clicked on it and it scanned the computer finding almost 40 viruses. She must have had them all along and didn't realize because she ignored or didn't see the warning. Anyway, there are three problems: 1) Her computer refuses to go online even when connected to the internet plug. 2) I must go online to rid her computer of these viruses. 3) It tells me I need to activate something called System Security to remove all these infections, and it has to be paid for, I believe? We don't want to pay for removing them. We just want to get online and clean her computer of all these viruses for free. Where can I download a totally FREE antispyware program? Friday night I discovered that a spyware called "Win32.Trojan.Dropper" had infected my computer. I don't know much about computers but I really want to remove that spyware. I don't have a credit card to buy antispyware online. Whenever I search for free antispywares, all I find are "half free" ones, where you can scan for viruses but you can not clean it because you have to purchase it online. My computer is running awfully slow now, I really need some help. =(

Grayware/Spyware/Malware removal?? Adw_adultbrows.b? My friend's computer was acting up so I told him to do a scan on housecall65.trendmicro.com, a free online virus scan that one of my friends told me to try once. I have used this before and it deletes whatever it finds no problem. Well my friend told me that the infections it found were "ADW_AdultBrows.B" & then the cookies. I told him to click clean and remove for both of them. When I talked to him later he told me that it said " Some infections of this grayware/spyware could not be removed automatically! Complete removal of the grayware listed below failed...." There wasn't any other information of how to remove this grayware/spyware, so I was hoping that someone could help me?! Is there any free online scans? or anything free to download and scan to get rid of it? Please help me help my friend. This has got me stumped. THANKS! He has windows defender right now, should I remove that if I am downloading the Spyware Doctor Starter Edition for him? AVG "Access forbidden by server error", why? My AVG hasn't been able to update for the last week and when I try to I get a "Access forbidden by server" error. I thought this might be the result of using the free version, so I paid for the full version, uninstalled the old AVG, put in the new updated one, and I'm having the same issue. Any thoughts or suggestions from all you smarty pants out there? I spent two hours running the free ESET online virus scanner and it found a trojan horse virus and said it cleaned it. Does this sound like a virus is preventing me from updating? Other thoughts? Thanks in advance for all your help! I tried Rahool's instructions, as they were also on AVG's website, and they didn't help because there is no ok button once you run it. Just install or cancel. How do your emove the Trojan.Zlob.g virus? It has hijacked my browser and I keep getting phony security error? I have run adaware and it finds nothing. I run AVG free virus scan and it finds nothing. I tried also a program called rogueremover pro. This trojan causes a windows security error to pop up saying the name of the trojan.zlob.g. it has hijacked my home page to look like an error that says virus attack is suspected. some research online says this is a low risk virus but it's irritating. the window pops up every 10 or 15 min or so. My homepage sometimes works as normal but other times is hijacked and cleaning cookies temporarily helps that. Answers?

am i infected?
