What method of carpet cleaning can be done without damaging fine art paintings?

I'm arranging carpet cleaning for a customer who has an extensive amount of fine art paintings in his home. Is there a certain method of carpet cleaning that is safe for use around artwork (I'm afraid that steam cleaning or chemicals may damage the artwork), or will we just have to move it all out before the carpets are cleaned?

  1. The host system uses sawdust and solvents, this system would be best. Otherwise you would raise the humidity to high levels unless it was done on a hot day windows ]all open etc. Steam clean the best then,
  2. To clean fine art you just use a damp cloth to remove the dust and if you are afraid of the steam released by the steam cleaner open the windows for a bit, but if it is fine art as you said then the oil paintings are not as fragile has you are thinking , open the windows to let the steam out if you are concerned. The oil is well cured on the canvas and a bit of steam wont hurt them. as long that you don't splash them with the cleaning products that you have you are safe to go ahead or tell the owner to remove them from the walls if you are uncomfortable working in the rooms , by the sound of things you need to have insurance coverage for the work that you do .
  3. A professional steam cleaning service pumps the water out to their truck, so there are no chemicals or steam to be concerned about.
  4. If this is true fine art, you may wish to consult your insurer to see what their wishes are. The rider may have certain clauses with respect to hazards while on display.
