What cleaner is recommended to clean the lines for a kegerator?

I'd like to find a good cleaner to clean out the lines in my kegerator. I know there are some special ones I can order off line, but are there any that I could possibly just pick up at the grocery store? By the way, I already have the cleaning pump and all that, and I always take apart and clean the faucet. I just need to know what kind of cleaning solution would be good.

  1. simple anti-bacterial soap and water should do the trick
  2. KEROSENE
  3. You won't be able to really find anything decent via grocery store, but if you have a local home brew store, they would carry a line cleaning solution there. micromatic is one of the more popular line cleaning kits around (micromatic.com) . Generally though you should be cleaning out your lines and taps once a week with just plain water, then a cleaning solution every month to 2 months depending upon useage.
  4. There are several brands that can be purchased from a homebrew supply store. DO NOT use soap unless you want your beer to taste and smell like soap..
  5. "Beer Line Cleaner" (BLC) is your best bet. If you insist on using something not intended for beer lines, you will get inferior results and possibly off flavors. You might get good results with a dilute bleach solution, but you have to go way overboard with rinsing it out when you're done to get the chlorine smell/taste out...preferably with boiling water.
