Vacuum cleaner?

I just bought a vacuum cleaner and in the owners manual it says: Caution: power cord contains lead which has been known to cause birth defects and other health problems. Wash hands after handling. Is this a common thing with most vacuums or should I return it?

  1. Sounds odd to me, how are the allowed to sell a product that is known to cause birth defects? Take it back. Jules, Australia.
  2. I'd return it. I just did a bunch a looking on the internet and you can tell by looking on the power cord to see if it's lead free. It will have "LF" on the cord. The lead is from the PVC used to make the power cord. The article attached is not about vacuums specifically, but it does give some info, options and backs up the PVC. Get a name brand. You'll be safe there. Good luck.
  3. You should take it back because wat if a kid would touch it and u didn't know?!?!?!?! who knows wat would happen!!!
  4. if you are worried about the miniscule amount of lead in that power cord your nuts. Believe me, just keep the vacuum and dont put the cord in your mouth you will be fine, heck, even if you do put the cord in your mouth you will be fine. I have been working on electronics for many years using lead solder (which containes 10,000 times more lead than that power cord does) and I also mold bullets in my case you just have to maske sure you wash your hands. In your case, dont worry about it
